Description: This painting was inspired by Millets’ Angelus which was originally called Prayer for the Potato Crop. When the commission was not picked up in 1859, he changed the name to Angleus.
Artist’s Comments: This is part of my series of Painting of the Masters. The use of multiple dark glazes created this somber mood. The painting was part of the Barbizon school in France at this time.
